Biggest games to watch for Utah
-
Notre Dame vs BYU: Root for BYU
Utah CFP probability: 64.7% if BYU wins, compared with 58.3% if Notre Dame wins. Difference: 6.4% percentage points.
Utah still has BYU on its schedule, so BYU continuing to win would make that matchup more valuable. However, BYU would also improve its own at-large case, which offsets part of that benefit to Utah. That does mean siding with rival BYU. We know. If it happens, this would be the single most helpful result of the day for Utah.
-
Arkansas vs Vanderbilt: Root for Arkansas
Utah CFP probability: 60.6% if Arkansas wins, compared with 57.9% if Vanderbilt wins. Difference: 2.7% percentage points.
Utah already beat Arkansas, so Arkansas continuing to win strengthens the value of one of Utah's wins.
-
Oklahoma State vs Houston: Root for Houston
Utah CFP probability: 59.9% if Houston wins, compared with 56.4% if Oklahoma State wins. Difference: 3.5% percentage points.
A Houston loss would reduce the résumé value of Utah's future matchup with Houston. However, Houston would also improve its own at-large case, which offsets part of that benefit to Utah.
-
TCU vs Baylor: Root for TCU
Utah CFP probability: 61.3% if TCU wins, compared with 58.8% if Baylor wins. Difference: 2.5% percentage points.
Utah benefits most from Baylor, a fringe at-large contender, taking the loss. The title-game picture also matters: Baylor currently has a better chance than TCU to reach the Big 12 title game, so a loss by Baylor removes more competition from Utah's conference-title path. Schedule context also supports that outcome: Utah still has TCU on its schedule, so TCU continuing to win would make that matchup more valuable.
-
Kansas vs Kansas State: Root for Kansas
Utah CFP probability: 60.2% if Kansas wins, compared with 58.7% if Kansas State wins. Difference: 1.5% percentage points.
Utah already beat Kansas, so Kansas continuing to win strengthens the value of one of Utah's wins.
-
Ohio State vs Indiana: Root for Indiana
Utah CFP probability: 60.0% if Indiana wins, compared with 58.8% if Ohio State wins. Difference: 1.2% percentage points.
Ohio State losing removes some at-large competition for Utah. Indiana is currently the stronger at-large contender, so the evidence is mixed; the overall CFP result still slightly favors Indiana.
-
Florida vs Texas: Root for Florida
Utah CFP probability: 60.4% if Florida wins, compared with 59.1% if Texas wins. Difference: 1.3% percentage points.
Texas is the bigger current at-large threat, so a loss by Texas is more valuable to Utah. However, Florida would improve its own at-large case with a win, but knocking back Texas matters more to Utah. Texas connects to Utah's schedule through Arkansas, so a stronger Texas can add some value to Utah's schedule too.
